Sammy is the perfect all-American dairy girl.
Sammy came to us from longtime Alpine breeder, cheesemaker, and inspiration Laini at Lazy Lady Farm and is from a powerhouse line of Alpines jam-packed with remarkable animals. Her sire Bo's dam, Shine's Lanky, milked 3,210 pounds as a first freshener and was over 4,300 pounds by her second year. Another star in Sammy's pedigree is SG Redwood Hills Lance Jitterbug 5*M, 2010's national top producer with over 5,000 pounds.
While Sammy came from a production line, there's more to her than just milk in the pail. When we put her in front of the appraiser she scored VEVV 89 as a 5-year-old and the appraiser couldn't find enough good things to say about her, scoring her over 40 in both strength and dairyness and remarking that all dairy animals should be as well balanced as she is. When we brought her out to her first show at the 2024 Caledonia County Fair she immediately won Grand Champion AOP at the age of five.
Sammy is my ideal doe, pushing the upper limits of power while maintaining elite dairy character. She is also an "easy keeper," retaining muscle and strength throughout milking season with no micromanagement. She is the deep, wide, yet feminine and refined style we're aiming for, topped off with a snugly attached mammary and long foreudder. She's everything you could want.
Sammy is afraid of mice and the dark, so John plays old-timey jazz for her when he brings her through the woods to the milking parlor at night.
