Ursula was a late add to our breeding program in 2024 after I happened to see a photograph of her and saw basically all the qualities we want in our herd. Her stunning legs, foreudder, and strong front end make her stand out in a crowd. She has a beautiful, well-supported udder with large, easy-to-express orifices. She is heavy producer and a joy to hand milk. 

Ursula comes from longtime and knowledgable Alpine breeder Joe Sabins at Doe-Haven in northern Maine. Joe has bred many beautiful animals and we felt very lucky to bring Ursula home. Her paternal grandsire X-Rated is a nationally distinguished animal in his own right and sire of many other nationally distinguished animals. Ursula has already ranked 13th as senior yearling at 2022 Nationals, while her granddam Maybelline was 8th place yearling milker at 2016 Nationals. Ursula herself became a permanent champion in 2024. 

Ursula will be appraised and put on milk test for the first time in 2025. She is without a doubt our tallest doe and possibly the tallest Alpine I have ever seen in person. Thank goodness she is also extremely gentle and has become a general favorite and friend to all on the farm, including the guardian llama.

She took a dislike to our French Alpine buck Frank, so we allowed her to breed with our senior Nigerian herdsire Duff in 2024 in hopes of producing some strong and super-milky F1 miniature Alpines. Next season she'll be AI'd to Olentangy Chimay Trademark.
